Huntsville, TX Volksmarch (10K)

We did the Year Round Event today around the city of Huntsville.

It was 78 degrees when we started walking at 9:15 a.m.  The walk starts a a museum that doesn’t open until 9 so we had not real choice in starting this late.  We got there early so went over to visit the mamoth statue of Sam Houston along I-45.  Pretty impressive.

The walk starts off passing the Steamboat House where Sam Houston died.  It was moved to this location for preservation.  There are other Sam Houston building like his law office on the same site.

The walk goes through commercial and residential to get to the cemetary where Sam is buried.  It continues to the downtown passing the Walker County courthouse which was built in 1970.  The walk continues around town until you come to the university campus with its impressive buildings, fountain, and bell tower.

It was 91 when we finished walking.  We had shade probably 50% of the time and we had an occasional breeze and some cloud cover.
