The Hill Country Volkssportsverein hosted two 5k and 10k walks at Waring, an unincorporated community, eight miles southwest of Comfort, TX. Founded in 1887 the community was originally called Waringford. The name was changed to just Waring in 1901.
We walked a lightly traveled paved county road which crossed Big Joshua Creek three times before turning around and returning to the start along the same county road.
The walked started at the Volunteer Fire Department.
We passed the General Store.
This pump is in the school yard.
Historical marker says children were last taught here in 1954.
Both of these pictures are of the same church.
Leaving town we headed out into the country.
This was where we turned around and headed back into town. Pictures are now of the view going back.
The above aircraft was not on the walk route. I spotted this as I was driving out of town. It looked so out of place in a hayfield that I had to take a picture of it. I would like to know the story of how it came to be there.
