Weatherford is an interesting small town just west of Fort Worth. The Volksmarch (walking tour) is a Year Round Event which means it is a “self-serve”. We asked for the walk box at Albertson’s Grocery Store and completed the registration. With directions in hand we headed out.

We soon came to the old city cemetery. Greenwood Cemetery is a historic cemetery dating back to the Civil War. Famous people buried here include actress Mary Martin (Peter Pan), Oliver Loving and Bose Ikard (Goodnight-Loving Cattle Trail and whose story was immortalized by novelist Larry McMurtry in “Lonesome Dove”). Douglas Chandor, (the famous artist who built Chandor Gardens) and Samuel T. Lanham (the last Civil War veteran elected as a Texas Governor). The walk route didn’t actually go by there, but we wandered around looking.
- Oliver Lovings grave.
- Governor Samual Lanham served 1903-1907
- Grave of Mary Martin who portrayed Peter Pan on Broadway.
- Bose Ikard part of the Goodnight-Loving Trail Drive.
The walk goes by the entrance to the beautiful Chandor Gardens. We detoured inside.
